lost n found

lost n found—a personal journey focusing on the experience I have been as an immigrant in the United States since 2018. The design language is inspired by the cassette tape to symbolize the ideas of record of every exciting milestones when I first came here in 2018 until 2025. The project blends visual storytelling with expressive typography, monochromatic images and the nostalgic aesthetics of cassette tapes. The format of the interior page appears in the long-folded scroll with the timeline of significant moments. The packaging is a cumulative work of designing, laser-cutting, and assembling pieces by pieces to create a full experience for a mixtape concept. Through this concept, I've captured and documented my growing experiences, using design to reflect memories, a sense of identity, and transformation.

Challenge: Turning my personal journey into a meaningful visual and tactile experience by using the skills and perspective I had developed as a designer.

Solution: I used the cassette tape as a personal metaphor for memory, which is something that records, holds, and carries moments over time. The book follows my journey from arriving in the United States in 2018 to who I had become by 2025. Rather than using a traditional book format, I designed foldable pages that unfold like a strip of tape, allowing the story to feel continuous and reflective. Shifts in typography, imagery, and layout mirror the emotions and changes I experienced throughout those years. I completed the piece with a handmade, laser-cut acrylic case to make it feel like a personal mixtape of memories, identity, and growth.

Deliverables: Foldable pages integrated with gold vellum paper, paired with a laser-cut and hand-assembled acrylic cassette tape case.

Outcome: lost n found reflects my journey as an immigrant in the United States from 2018 to 2025. Inspired by cassette tapes, the project records the milestones, memories, and changes that shaped my sense of identity and belonging. Through expressive typography, monochromatic imagery, and a hand-assembled mixtape package, I created an intimate archive of growth, transformation, and finding my place in a new home.

Tools: Illustrator • Photoshop • Photography • Laser-cutting
