Challenge: Communicate the feeling and cultural significance of tea without relying on color or written explanation. Each photograph needed to express movement, patience, intimacy, and tradition while maintaining a cohesive visual style throughout the series.
Solution: I experimented with depth of field, camera angles, lighting, composition, the rule of thirds, and leading lines to create visual rhythm and contrast. By focusing on gestures, objects, shadows, and the movement of water, the series transforms the tea drinking into an elegant and expressive visual narrative rooted in Vietnamese culture.
Deliverables: A cohesive black-and-white photography series documenting the stages of the tea ritual, including preparing, waiting, pouring, and drinking tea. The final photographs were selected and arranged to create a consistent visual flow, atmosphere, and narrative.
Outcome: The final series presents tea as more than a beverage, it becomes a cultural and emotional experience. Arteaism reflects the symbolic beauty of Vietnamese tea culture while demonstrating intentional composition, visual storytelling, and technical experimentation in photography.
Tools: Fujifilm XT-100 • Lightroom
